A018-Large studio with sea view swimming pool garage
You know what struck me first about this place? The name is absolutely terrible – “A018-Large studio with sea view swimming pool garage” sounds like someone’s Airbnb listing went through Google Translate twice. But honestly, don’t let that put you off because this little gem tucked away on Avenue du Grand Pin is actually something special.
I mean, La Californie is one of those Cannes neighborhoods that feels worlds away from the madness down by the Croisette, but you’re still close enough to walk to all the action (though it’s uphill on the way back, fair warning). The studio itself is surprisingly spacious – when they say “large” they’re not kidding around. That sea view they mention? It’s legit, and from the pool area you get this gorgeous sweep of the Mediterranean that changes color throughout the day. The pool isn’t huge but it’s perfectly decent for cooling off, and having that garage is honestly a godsend because parking in Cannes during festival season (or really any summer weekend) is basically a contact sport.
What I really loved about staying here was how quiet it gets in the evenings – you’re far enough from the main drags that you actually hear cicadas instead of car horns, but close enough that a quick drive down Avenue du Docteur Picaud gets you to the beach clubs in about ten minutes. The apartment itself has that relaxed Riviera vibe without trying too hard – simple furnishings, good natural light, and a kitchen that’s actually functional if you want to grab groceries from the little Monoprix down the hill and eat in. The 9 rating makes sense once you factor in the value – I’ve paid twice as much for cramped hotel rooms with no view and nowhere to park. Sure, it’s not fancy in that polished resort way, but there’s something refreshing about a place that just delivers on the basics really well. The check-in was smooth (they actually answered their phone, which is more than I can say for some places), and they left some local wine and basic provisions which was a nice touch. If you’re looking for that authentic Cannes experience without the eye-watering price tags of the palace hotels, this spot hits the sweet spot perfectly.
