Hotel Description
You know what? I’ve walked past the Alessandra on Rue de Lorraine dozens of times over the years, and I always wondered what it was like inside. Well, I finally stayed there last spring, and honestly – it’s one of those finds that makes you feel a bit smug for discovering it. The building itself has this understated French elegance that doesn’t scream for attention like some of the flashier places along La Croisette, but that’s actually part of its charm.
The location is pretty much perfect if you want to be in the thick of things without paying Majestic prices. You’re literally a three-minute walk to the Palais des Festivals – I timed it because I’m weird like that – and maybe five minutes to the beach if you cut through the little side streets. What I really loved though was being close to Rue Meynadier, which is where the locals actually shop for food and wine. The morning market there is incredible, and you can grab proper coffee (not tourist coffee) at any of the cafés along the way. The hotel sits right in that sweet spot where you’ve got easy access to everything, but you’re not dealing with the constant carnival atmosphere of the main tourist strips.
Inside, it’s got that classic French hotel vibe – clean lines, decent-sized rooms for European standards, and everything just works. The staff actually knows the neighborhood, which sounds basic but you’d be surprised how rare that is. When I asked about dinner recommendations, the guy at reception didn’t just hand me a brochure – he told me about this tiny bistro two blocks away that serves the best bouillabaisse outside of Marseille. The rooms are comfortable without being fancy, and here’s something I appreciated – the windows actually block out street noise, which matters when you’re in the city center. I mean, it’s not going to be library-quiet, but I slept fine even during the film festival madness. The whole place has this relaxed, unpretentious energy that I think comes from being family-run rather than part of some big chain. Sometimes you just want a place that feels genuine, you know? Where you can ask for an extra pillow without feeling like you’re disrupting some carefully orchestrated hotel experience.
