— The hotel
Apartment Rue St Antoine
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to Apartment Rue St Antoine, I wasn’t expecting much from the outside. It’s tucked into this narrow street in the heart of Cannes, and you know how these old French buildings can be… a bit worn around the edges. But here’s the thing that caught me off guard: the location is actually brilliant if you want to feel like you’re living in Cannes rather than just visiting it.
You’re literally a two-minute walk from Rue d’Antibes – that’s where all the serious shopping happens, not the touristy stuff on La Croisette. I mean, you can still get to the famous promenade and those fancy hotel beaches in about five minutes, but you’re staying where actual Cannois grab their morning coffee and evening wine. The apartment itself is pretty much what you’d expect from a solid 3-star place – clean, functional, with that particular French efficiency where everything has its place (sometimes whether you like it or not). The rooms aren’t huge, but honestly, who spends time in their room in Cannes anyway? What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night, which is sort of miraculous considering you’re smack in the city center. The building has thick walls – you know, proper old French construction – so even when the bars on nearby streets are buzzing, you can actually sleep.
Here’s what nobody tells you about staying on Rue Saint-Antoine: parking is going to be an adventure. There’s street parking if you’re feeling lucky, but I’d recommend the public garage about three blocks away – it’s not cheap, but it beats driving in circles for twenty minutes. The other thing is that while the staff is helpful, this isn’t the kind of place where someone’s going to hold your hand through everything. They’ll give you the keys, show you how the quirky French shower works (there’s always something quirky), and then you’re pretty much on your own – which I actually preferred. The whole setup feels more like borrowing a friend’s place than staying in a hotel, if that makes sense. During festival season, this location is pure gold because you can walk to most venues without dealing with the absolute chaos of traffic, and honestly, at 7.5 out of 10, it delivers exactly what it promises without any pretense. It’s not going to wow you with marble bathrooms or concierge service, but it’ll give you a real base in Cannes where you can spread out a bit, maybe grab groceries from the little market around the corner, and feel like you belong in the neighborhood rather than just passing through.
Cannes hotels range from charming boutique properties in the historic Le Suquet district to elegant palace hotels and modern luxury accommodations along La Croisette Boulevard.
