— The hotel
APPART/PALM BEACH/ CANNES
You know what? I wasn’t expecting much from APPART/PALM BEACH when I first walked up to 12 Rue Jean Cresp – honestly, the name sounds a bit generic and I’d seen mixed reviews of apartment-style places in Cannes. But this little spot actually surprised me in the best way. It’s tucked right in Pointe Croisette, which means you’re basically living like a local but still close enough to all the festival madness when you want it. The building itself has that classic French Riviera charm without being too fancy about it, and I mean that as a compliment – sometimes the über-luxe places can feel a bit cold, you know?
What really won me over was how thoughtfully everything’s set up inside. The apartments (because that’s really what these are) feel like someone actually lives there, not like a sterile hotel room where everything’s bolted down. You’ve got proper kitchen space, which is honestly a game-changer when you’re staying more than a couple nights – grabbing fresh bread from the boulangerie down the street and making coffee in your own place beats hotel breakfast any day. The location is pretty brilliant too, actually. You’re far enough from the main Croisette chaos that you can sleep at night (trust me, this matters during festival season), but it’s still just a pleasant walk to the beach or into the old town. I found myself cutting through some of the quieter residential streets, and you really get a feel for what Cannes is like when it’s not performing for tourists.
The 9.1 rating makes total sense once you’ve stayed here – it’s one of those places that just works without trying too hard. The staff knows their stuff without being overly formal, check-in was smooth (no weird French bureaucracy delays), and honestly, the value is pretty solid for Cannes. I mean, you’re not going to get Palais des Festivals luxury at three-star prices, but you will get a clean, comfortable base that feels more like borrowing a friend’s apartment than staying in a tourist hotel. The neighborhood’s got this nice residential vibe too – there’s a little tabac around the corner, some decent restaurants that locals actually use, and you’re close enough to walk to Forville market in the mornings. If you’re the type who likes to settle in somewhere rather than just crash between sightseeing marathons, this place gets it right.
