— The hotel
Appartement 4 personnes situé à 2 pas de la Croisette et des plages
Look, I’ve stayed in a lot of places in Cannes over the years, and this apartment at Le Velasquez honestly surprised me. When you first see “Avenue de Madrid,” you might think it sounds far from everything, but here’s the thing – you’re literally a two-minute walk to the Croisette. I mean, I could hear the gentle buzz of the boulevard from the balcony, but it wasn’t that awful traffic noise that keeps you up at night. The building itself has that classic French Riviera feel without being stuffy about it, and the elevator actually works (trust me, this matters when you’re hauling luggage up after a long day).
What really got me was how the apartment feels way more spacious than most hotel rooms you’d get for the same money in this area. The living room opens up nicely, and there’s actually room for four people to hang out without bumping into each other constantly. The kitchen – well, it’s not huge, but you can definitely make coffee in the morning and maybe throw together some lunch with stuff from the Forville market. Speaking of which, that’s maybe a ten-minute walk if you take Rue d’Antibes, which I’d recommend anyway because you’ll pass some great little shops. The bedroom setup works well for families or couples traveling together, and honestly, the bed was more comfortable than I expected. You know how apartment rentals can be hit-or-miss with mattresses.
Here’s what I really appreciated though – the location gives you options. Sure, you can walk to the fancy beach clubs on the Croisette in minutes (Plage Bâoli is right there if you want to see and be seen), but you’re also close enough to the port area where things feel more… real, I guess? Less touristy. The Pantiero area has some incredible restaurants that locals actually go to, and you can walk there easily. Parking can be tricky around here – I mean, it’s Cannes during festival season, what do you expect – but there are paid spots nearby, and the building’s location means you’re not stuck in the worst of the traffic. I actually ended up walking everywhere, which was perfect. The beaches are right there, the shopping’s right there, and when you want to escape the Croisette crowds, you just duck back to this quieter street and decompress. It’s sort of the best of both worlds – close enough to be in the action, far enough away to actually relax.
