— The hotel
BARBARA by Terry’s Homes
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first saw the name “BARBARA by Terry’s Homes,” I had no idea what to expect. But this little three-star gem on Rue Bivouac Napoléon turned out to be one of those pleasant surprises that makes you feel like you’ve discovered something the crowds haven’t figured out yet. The street itself is actually named after Napoleon’s famous bivouac in Cannes (yeah, he really did camp here), and you’re literally in the thick of everything that matters in the city center. I mean, you can walk to the Palais des Festivals in about eight minutes – I timed it because I’m weird like that – and the morning market on Rue Meynardier is practically around the corner.
What I love about this place is that it feels more like staying at a friend’s well-appointed apartment than some sterile hotel chain. The whole “Terry’s Homes” concept makes sense once you’re there – it’s got that boutique residential vibe where someone clearly thought about the details. The rooms aren’t huge (this is Cannes, after all, where space costs more than champagne), but they’re smartly designed with these little touches that show someone actually lives in this city and knows what travelers need. The soundproofing is surprisingly good too, which matters because Rue Bivouac Napoléon can get lively, especially during festival season when the whole city basically turns into one big party.
Here’s the thing about the location that guidebooks won’t tell you – you’re close enough to walk everywhere important, but just far enough from the Croisette that you won’t be fighting through crowds of tourists every time you step outside. The neighborhood has actual French people living in it, you know? There’s this fantastic little boulangerie two blocks down where the woman behind the counter will absolutely judge your French pronunciation but makes croissants that’ll ruin you for airport pastries forever. Parking can be tricky (welcome to Cannes), but there’s a public garage nearby, and honestly, once you’re settled in, you won’t want to drive anywhere anyway. The 8.8 rating makes total sense – it’s not trying to be the Martinez or the Carlton, but for what it is, it’s really well executed. If you want to feel like you’re actually staying in Cannes rather than just visiting it, and you don’t need a concierge in white gloves, BARBARA hits that sweet spot between authentic and comfortable.
