— The hotel
Blvd De La Croisette 82A, Cannes, La Réale
Honestly, when I first saw the address on Boulevard de la Croisette, I thought this was going to be one of those overpriced tourist traps that line Cannes’ famous waterfront. I mean, you’re literally right there on the most expensive stretch of real estate on the French Riviera. But La Réale completely surprised me – in the best possible way.
The thing about this place is that it sits right at Pointe Croisette, which if you know Cannes at all, is sort of the quieter end where the boulevard starts to curve toward the port. You’re still walking distance from all the festival madness and the Palais des Festivals (maybe ten minutes if you’re strolling), but you actually get some peace at night. The rooms face different directions, and honestly, even the ones without direct sea views are pretty lovely because you catch glimpses of the water between the palm trees. What really got me was how the staff seemed to genuinely care – not that rehearsed hotel politeness, but like they actually wanted you to have a good time. The woman at reception gave me this whole rundown about which beaches charge what for umbrellas and where to get the best pan bagnat in town (it’s at Chez Vincent, by the way, not the touristy spots everyone talks about).
You know what’s funny? For a 3-star place, it punches way above its weight. The rooms aren’t huge – this is Cannes, space costs more than gold – but they’re thoughtfully designed with these clever little storage solutions and really good lighting. The bathroom situation was surprisingly luxurious, with one of those rainfall showers that actually has decent water pressure. I stayed there during the film festival one year (pure luck with a last-minute cancellation), and even with all the chaos in town, coming back to La Réale felt like finding a quiet pocket of sanity. The neighborhood gets busy during the day with people heading to Plage du Martinez, but evenings have this lovely residential feel where you can hear conversations drifting from the café terraces mixed with the sound of waves. Parking is… well, it’s Cannes, so don’t expect miracles, but they have arrangements with a nearby garage that won’t completely bankrupt you. That 9.7 rating isn’t some fluke – this place just gets the little things right, from the quality of the coffee in the morning to having staff who can actually give you directions to the good hiking trails up in Le Suquet when you need a break from all the beachfront glamour.
