You know what hit me first about this place? The name is honestly a mouthful – C5 – 2 BDR Blvd Carnot and all that – but once you’re actually standing on that terrace looking out at the Mediterranean, you couldn’t care less what they call it. I mean, this is exactly the kind of spot you stumble across in Cannes and think “how did I get so lucky?”

The location on Boulevard Carnot is pretty brilliant, actually. It’s in the Carnot neighborhood, which – let’s be honest – most tourists skip right over on their way to La Croisette, but that’s exactly why it works. You’re about a ten-minute walk from all the Palais des Festivals madness (I timed it), but when you come home in the evening, you’re not dealing with the crowds of people taking selfies every five meters. The building itself has that classic French apartment feel – you know, the kind with the heavy wooden doors and marble stairs that echo a bit when you’re dragging your suitcase up. Check-in was surprisingly smooth, though I’d recommend confirming the exact process beforehand since it’s more like renting an apartment than a traditional hotel experience.

But honestly, the terrace is where this place really shines. The sea view isn’t one of those “if you crane your neck and squint” situations – it’s properly there, especially gorgeous around sunset when the light hits the water just right. The air conditioning actually works (which, trust me, matters a lot during those sticky July evenings), and there’s something really satisfying about having two full bedrooms when you’re used to cramped hotel rooms. The kitchen setup is decent too – nothing fancy, but you can make proper coffee in the morning and store those overpriced bottles of rosé you’ll inevitably buy at the local Monoprix. Speaking of which, there’s one just down the street that’s perfect for grabbing basics without trekking all the way to the tourist shops near the port.

The 9.6 rating makes total sense once you’ve spent a few days here. It’s got that sweet spot thing going on – nice enough that you feel like you’re treating yourself, but not so polished that you’re afraid to actually live in it. The neighborhood has a few solid bistros (there’s this little place on Rue d’Antibes that does incredible bouillabaisse), and you’re close enough to walk to the morning market at Marché Forville when you want to feel like a local. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle – welcome to Cannes – but the trade-off is being able to walk pretty much everywhere you’d want to go. The noise level is reasonable too, which is saying something for this city during festival season. I’d definitely come back, probably outside of the crazy expensive May period when you can actually enjoy the beaches without fighting for space.
