— The hotel
Casa Charlotte nel cuore di Cannes
You know what surprised me about Casa Charlotte? It’s actually tucked away on this quiet little street – Rue Hibert – that somehow feels completely removed from the Cannes chaos, but you’re literally a three-minute walk from all the action. I mean, you step out the door and within minutes you’re on Boulevard de la Croisette watching people spend ridiculous amounts of money on espresso, but back at the hotel it’s this peaceful bubble.
The place has that lived-in charm that you don’t really get with the big chain hotels. It’s a proper 3-star, nothing pretentious about it, but honestly the details are what got me. The woman at reception – I think she might be Charlotte herself, though I never asked – knew exactly which bakery to hit for morning pastries (hint: not the touristy one on the corner) and actually drew me a little map to the best beach access point where you won’t get hassled by the private beach attendants. The rooms are clean and comfortable, maybe not Instagram-perfect, but there’s something refreshing about staying somewhere that doesn’t try too hard. Mine overlooked the street, which I was initially worried about noise-wise, but Rue Hibert is surprisingly quiet – even during Festival season, apparently.
What really works here is the location specifics that most hotels don’t tell you about. You’re close enough to the Palais des Festivals that you can walk there in under ten minutes, but far enough from the main tourist drag that you’re not dealing with cruise ship crowds every time you leave. There’s this little épicerie literally next door where you can grab wine and snacks – crucial when you realize how expensive everything gets near the water. And parking, well, it’s Cannes so it’s always going to be a bit of a nightmare, but there’s actually street parking on the side streets if you’re willing to walk a block or two. The 8.7 rating makes sense to me – it’s not luxury, but it delivers exactly what it promises without any unpleasant surprises. I’d definitely stay here again, especially if I wanted to experience Cannes without feeling like I was trapped in a tourist bubble the entire time.
