— The hotel
Centre Carré d’or 3 chambres
Look, I’ve stayed in a lot of places in Cannes over the years, and Centre Carré d’or honestly surprised me – in the best way possible. When you first walk up to 7 Rue du Commandant André, you might think “wait, this is it?” because the street itself is pretty unassuming. But that’s actually part of what makes this place work so well. You’re literally a three-minute walk from all the Croisette madness, but tucked away enough that you’re not dealing with the constant tourist chaos right outside your door.
The apartment itself – because that’s really what this is, a proper three-bedroom setup – feels like someone’s actual home rather than a sterile hotel room. I mean, you’ve got a real kitchen where you can actually cook (thank god, because eating out for every meal in Cannes will bankrupt you), and the living space has that lived-in comfort that makes you want to kick off your shoes and stay awhile. The bedrooms are well, they’re not huge, but they’re thoughtfully arranged and honestly pretty quiet considering you’re smack in the city center. I was worried about street noise when I first arrived, but the windows do a decent job of keeping things peaceful at night.
What really sold me on this place though is the location knowledge you get just by staying here. The host – or maybe it was just the info they left – pointed me toward this little bakery on Rue d’Antibes that I never would have found otherwise, and suddenly I understood why locals queue up there every morning. You’re also close enough to walk to the Palais des Festivals without the hassle, but far enough from the train station that you’re not hearing announcements at all hours. And honestly? The parking situation is way better than most places in this part of town – there’s actually street parking that doesn’t require a PhD in French parking regulations to figure out.
The whole experience feels more like borrowing a friend’s place than staying in a typical hotel, which explains that 9.6 rating. You’ve got space to spread out, you can grab groceries at the Monoprix down the street and actually use them, and you’re not paying resort prices for every little thing. Sure, you don’t get daily housekeeping or a concierge, but you know what? Sometimes it’s nice to just live normally for a few days instead of feeling like you’re constantly “on vacation” in that exhausting way. The three-star rating might make you think it’s basic, but I’d honestly take this setup over some of the fancier hotels closer to the beach – you get more space, more flexibility, and you’re still close enough to everything that matters. Plus, when the film festival crowds descend or summer gets crazy, having your own little refuge where you can actually relax makes all the difference.
