— The hotel
Centre studio plage et festival
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to Centre studio plage et festival on Rue Lycklama, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place. But you know what? Sometimes the unassuming spots surprise you the most. This little studio hotel sits right in the heart of the Prado-République area, and I mean *right* in it – you’re literally a few minutes’ walk from the beach and close enough to hear the festival buzz during Cannes season (which, depending on your tolerance for crowds, is either fantastic or something to plan around).
The location is actually pretty brilliant once you get your bearings. Rue Lycklama is one of those quiet residential streets that locals use as a shortcut, so you’re not dealing with the tourist chaos of La Croisette, but you can still walk there in about ten minutes. I loved that I could grab fresh bread from the boulangerie around the corner in the morning – there’s something about that warm croissant smell drifting through the neighborhood that just makes you feel like you’re doing Cannes right. The studios themselves are compact but thoughtfully laid out (I mean, it’s Cannes, space is premium everywhere), and honestly, the 8 out of 10 rating makes sense. The place is clean, the wifi actually works, and the staff seems to genuinely care about making sure you’re sorted.
What really won me over was how the hotel balances that festival energy with actual livability. During the film festival madness, you’re close enough to feel the excitement but far enough from the main drag that you can actually sleep at night. The Prado area has this wonderful mix of regular Cannes life – families heading to school, people walking their dogs, that kind of thing – mixed with just enough glamour to remind you where you are. Plus, and this is key if you’re planning to stay during festival season, the prices here don’t go completely insane like some places closer to the Palais. I’d definitely recommend booking early though, especially if you’re coming in May or during any of the other festivals – this isn’t exactly a secret spot, and the combination of decent rates and solid location means it fills up fast. Just be prepared for the neighborhood to get a bit more energetic during events, but honestly, isn’t that part of why you came to Cannes in the first place?
