— The hotel
Charlie’s Hôtel Cannes
You know what caught me off guard about Charlie’s Hôtel Cannes? The location is honestly perfect, but not in the way you’d expect. Yeah, it’s right in the city center on Rue Du 24 Août – which, by the way, is this narrow street that feels completely removed from the Croisette chaos even though you’re literally a five-minute walk from all that glitz. I mean, you can actually sleep here during the film festival, which is saying something because most places in Cannes turn into complete noise factories in May.
The hotel itself has this unpretentious charm that I really appreciated. It’s a solid 3-star place that doesn’t try to be something it’s not, but the staff actually seems to care about getting the details right. The rooms are clean and comfortable – nothing fancy, but the beds are surprisingly good and the AC works properly (trust me, this matters in summer). What I loved most was how quiet it gets at night. You’re tucked away enough that you don’t hear the late-night party crowds stumbling back from the beaches, but you can still walk to Forville Market in the morning for those incredible Provençal tomatoes and proper coffee. The check-in was smooth too – no pretentious attitude, just helpful people who speak decent English and seem to actually know the city well.
Here’s the thing about this place that really won me over: it feels authentically Cannes without the tourist trap nonsense. You’re close enough to window shop on Rue d’Antibes (where locals actually buy things), and it’s an easy stroll to the old port where you can grab dinner at places that don’t charge you €40 for mediocre pasta just because they have a sea view. The hotel’s position means you can duck into the residential streets behind it when the main areas get overwhelming – and honestly, that’s where you’ll find the best bakeries anyway. I stayed here in September when the summer crowds had thinned out, and it felt like having a little base camp in a real French town rather than a resort destination. The 8.1 rating makes total sense to me – it’s not trying to be the Carlton, but it delivers exactly what most people actually need: a clean, comfortable place to sleep that’s perfectly positioned for exploring Cannes like someone who knows what they’re doing.
Cannes hotels range from charming boutique properties in the historic Le Suquet district to elegant palace hotels and modern luxury accommodations along La Croisette Boulevard.
