Duplex Vieux Port – Cannes
You know what really caught me off guard about Duplex Vieux Port? The name makes it sound like some fancy harbor-front place, but honestly, it’s tucked away on this narrow little street called rue de la rampe that most tourists probably walk right past. I mean, that’s actually perfect if you ask me – you’re literally a three-minute walk from all the Vieux Port action, but you won’t have drunk people stumbling around outside your window at 2 AM.
The whole setup is pretty clever, actually. It’s got that duplex thing going on (hence the name, obviously), so you get way more space than your typical Cannes hotel room without paying those insane harbor-view prices. The stairs inside are a bit steep – fair warning if you’re hauling heavy luggage – but there’s something really satisfying about having your own little two-level space in the middle of everything. The location on rue de la rampe puts you right in that sweet spot where you can walk to the Palais des Festivals in about eight minutes, but you’re also super close to those little side streets where locals actually eat. There’s this tiny boulangerie around the corner that opens at 6:30 AM, and I swear their pain au chocolat is better than anything you’ll find on the Croisette.
What I really appreciate is how the place doesn’t try to be something it’s not. It’s a solid 3-star that punches above its weight – that 8.5 rating isn’t just luck. The beds are actually comfortable (you’d be surprised how many places in Cannes phone this in), and they’ve clearly put thought into the little things that matter when you’re staying somewhere for more than just crashing after the beach. The duplex layout means you can spread out your stuff without living out of a suitcase, which is huge during film festival season when everything else is either booked solid or priced like a small mortgage payment. Parking’s always a nightmare in this part of Cannes, but there’s a public garage about two blocks away that’s way cheaper than hotel parking – just ask at reception, they’ll point you in the right direction. Honestly, for the money and the location, it’s one of those finds that makes you feel a little smug about outsmarting the tourist trap game.
