You know what struck me first about Effet Mer? The name’s a bit dramatic (it means “sea effect” in French), but honestly, it fits once you’re up on that first floor looking out over Cannes. I mean, you’re literally a two-minute walk from both the port and the beach – I timed it because I’m that kind of person – and the Palais des Festivals is right there too. The location is sort of ridiculous in the best way possible.

The apartment itself feels like someone actually thought about how people live, not just how hotels are supposed to look. It’s genuinely new, which you notice in the little things – the AC works perfectly (and you’ll need it in summer, trust me), the fixtures aren’t worn down, and everything just… works. I’ve stayed in plenty of places in Cannes where “renovated” means they slapped some paint over the problems, but this feels properly done. The Rue de la Rampe is one of those streets that locals use as a shortcut between the old port and La Croisette, so you’re in the thick of things without being on the crazy tourist strip where a coffee costs twelve euros.

What I really appreciated – and this might sound weird – is how quiet it gets at night despite being so central. The building has good bones, I guess, because even when the restaurants downstairs were busy (there’s this little bistro that locals actually go to, which is always a good sign), I could barely hear anything. The whole setup just makes sense for someone who wants to actually experience Cannes rather than just look at it from a hotel balcony. You can walk to the morning market at Forville in five minutes, grab proper coffee instead of hotel coffee, then wander back through the old streets that most tourists never see. And honestly, with a 9.5 rating, I was expecting to find something wrong with it – maybe the shower pressure or tiny rooms or whatever – but it really does live up to the hype. It’s the kind of place where you end up staying longer than planned because leaving feels like giving up a secret.
