— The hotel
Elegant duplex, very well equipped, close to shops
You know what caught me off guard about this place? The name says “hotel” but it’s actually this gorgeous duplex apartment that feels more like staying at a friend’s really well-appointed place in Cannes. I mean, when you’re walking up Rue Marcellin Berthelot – which honestly, most tourists never even notice because they’re all rushing toward the Croisette – you’d never guess you’re about to step into something this thoughtfully put together.
The location is sort of perfect in that sneaky local way. You’re in the Prado-République area, which means you can actually walk to those little neighborhood shops where Cannes residents do their real shopping, not the tourist traps. There’s this fantastic boulangerie maybe two minutes away where the morning croissant smell drifts down the street around 7 AM (fair warning if you’re trying to sleep in). The apartment itself has this duplex layout that actually works – I’ve stayed in plenty where the stairs feel like an afterthought, but here the flow between levels makes sense. The kitchen is honestly better equipped than my own back home, which became apparent when I decided to cook with some of those gorgeous tomatoes from the marché forville.
What really sold me, though, was how it sits in the neighborhood. You’re close enough to walk to the festival area when you want that Cannes energy, but far enough away that you’re not dealing with the constant buzz of tourists taking selfies outside your window. The streets here have this residential calm in the evenings – you’ll hear neighbors chatting on their balconies rather than club music echoing off buildings. Parking can be a bit of a dance (like anywhere in Cannes, really), but there are spots if you’re patient, and honestly, once you’re settled in, you might not want to drive much anyway. The whole setup feels less like a hotel stay and more like you’re actually living in Cannes for a few days, which I think is exactly the point. It’s got that 8.5 rating for good reason – everything works the way it should, but with enough character that you’re not staying in some sterile chain property where every surface is beige.
