— The hotel
Eleganza By SCLS Locations
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to Eleganza By SCLS, I almost missed it entirely. It’s tucked away on this quiet side street in the heart of Cannes, just off the main drag, and you know what? That turned out to be exactly what made it perfect. The entrance is on the first floor (that’s second floor for us Americans), which felt a bit odd at first, but once you’re up there, it’s like discovering this hidden gem that most tourists completely walk past.
The thing about staying right in Cannes city center is that you’re usually dealing with either crazy expensive places or tourist traps with paper-thin walls. Eleganza somehow manages to dodge both problems. I mean, you’re literally a three-minute walk from the Palais des Festivals – I actually timed it because I’m weird like that – but the street itself (1ère Rue du Barri, if you’re looking it up) stays surprisingly quiet, even during the film festival chaos. The owner clearly knows what they’re doing because everything feels thoughtfully put together without being fussy about it. My room had this interesting mix of modern touches and classic French details that actually worked, unlike some places that try too hard to be boutique-y.
What really struck me was how the staff seemed to genuinely care about getting the small stuff right. Check-in was smooth, they had solid recommendations for dinner spots that weren’t just the obvious tourist places, and honestly, the whole experience felt more like staying at a well-run B&B than a typical 3-star hotel. The 9.8 rating makes complete sense once you’re there – it’s not trying to be the Ritz, but for what it is, it’s pretty much nailed it. You’re close enough to walk to the beaches along the Croisette in about eight minutes, but far enough from the main strip that you can actually sleep at night. Plus, and this might sound random, but the morning light in that area is gorgeous – something about how the buildings are positioned just filters everything perfectly. If you’re planning to stay in Cannes and want something that feels authentic rather than generic, this place gets it right.
