Honestly, when I first walked up to Face à la Mer YourHostHelper, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place on Boulevard du Midi – but man, was I wrong. The name literally means “facing the sea” and they weren’t kidding around. You’re practically on top of the water here, which in Cannes means you’re in prime real estate territory without paying Croisette prices. I mean, you can actually hear the waves from your room, not just glimpse a sliver of blue between buildings like most places claim.

What really got me was how the staff actually seemed to care – you know that feeling when someone remembers your name after one conversation? That’s the YourHostHelper vibe. The woman at check-in (I think her name was Marie) knew exactly which restaurants were worth walking to versus the tourist traps, and she was spot-on about avoiding the crowds at Plage du Midi before 10am. The rooms aren’t huge – this is France, after all – but they’re thoughtfully laid out with these great little balconies that catch the morning light perfectly. I spent way too many mornings out there with coffee, watching the early joggers and dog walkers do their thing along the shore.

Location-wise, you’re sort of in this sweet spot where you can walk to all the Cannes action but escape the madness when you need to. The Palais des Festivals is maybe a 15-minute stroll along the waterfront, and you’re close enough to hear the buzz during festival season but far enough that you can actually sleep. Parking can be a bit of a headache (welcome to the Côte d’Azur), but there’s a public lot about two blocks inland that won’t completely destroy your budget. The 9.5 rating makes total sense once you’re there – it’s not trying to be the Carlton or the Martinez, but it absolutely nails what it is: a genuine, comfortable place where you feel like you’re staying with people who actually want you to love Cannes as much as they do. Plus, and this might sound silly, but the WiFi actually works everywhere, which after some of my experiences in “charming” European hotels, felt like a small miracle.
