— The hotel
Hayda – Proche plage et congrès
You know what struck me first about Hayda? It’s tucked away on Avenue de Vallauris in this quieter pocket of Cannes called La Californie Pezou, and honestly, that’s half the appeal right there. I mean, you’re still close enough to hear the buzz from the Palais des Festivals when something big is happening, but you’re not drowning in the chaos of La Croisette every time you step outside. The walk to the beach is maybe ten minutes if you’re taking your time – not bad at all, especially when you consider you’re paying way less than those waterfront places that charge you extra just for the sea view from your bathroom window.
The hotel itself feels authentically French in that unpretentious way that’s getting harder to find. It’s a solid 3-star that doesn’t try to be something it’s not, which I actually appreciate. The rooms are clean and comfortable – nothing fancy, but the beds are decent and the AC works (crucial during those sweltering July weeks when the film festival crowd descends). What I really liked was how the staff seemed to know the neighborhood inside and out. The guy at reception pointed me toward this little bakery just around the corner that locals hit up for morning pastries, and honestly, those croissants were better than anything I found on the main tourist strips. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle in this area – like most of Cannes, really – but they’ve got it sorted, which saves you from circling blocks looking for a spot.
The location really is the sweet spot here. You’re in La Californie, which feels more residential and real than the glitzy center, but a quick bus ride or pleasant walk gets you to all the action. I walked to the Palais des Congrès in about fifteen minutes, and if you’re here during festival season, that’s gold. Plus, you’re close enough to the Port Pierre Canto area where the mega-yachts dock – fun for people-watching without the Port Pierre Canto prices. The 7.6 rating makes sense to me; it’s not going to blow your mind, but it delivers exactly what you need without any nasty surprises. I’d definitely stay here again, especially if I wanted to feel like I was experiencing Cannes rather than just visiting it. Sometimes the best travel experiences happen when you’re staying somewhere that feels like part of the actual city instead of a tourist bubble.
