Hotel Description

You know what? I’ve walked past Hotel Alexandre III dozens of times over the years, and honestly, I used to think it was just another decent three-star place tucked away on Boulevard Alexandre III. But after actually staying there last spring, I’m kicking myself for not trying it sooner. The thing is, this hotel sits in this perfect sweet spot – you’re technically on the Croisette side of things, but just far enough back that you’re not dealing with the absolute chaos of peak tourist season. I mean, you can still hear the buzz from the main strip, especially during the film festival madness, but it’s more like a gentle hum than the full-on circus you get closer to the Palais.

The building itself has this understated charm that grows on you. It’s not trying to be the flashiest place on the block – and honestly, that’s exactly why it works. The lobby feels lived-in rather than sterile, with these worn leather chairs that actually look comfortable instead of just photogenic. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward too, none of that overly formal dance you sometimes get at fancier spots. What really surprised me was how well they handle the practical stuff that nobody talks about but everyone notices. The wifi actually works throughout the building (not a given in these older Cannes properties), and they’ve got this little courtyard area where you can grab coffee in the morning without feeling like you’re on display for every passerby on the street.

Here’s what I really appreciate about Alexandre III – it feels like a place where actual travelers stay, not just people checking boxes for Instagram. The rooms are solid without being fancy, and the staff seems to know Cannes beyond just the tourist highlights. When I asked about parking, they didn’t just point me toward the expensive lots near the convention center but actually suggested this spot about a five-minute walk away that locals use. That kind of practical knowledge makes a huge difference when you’re trying to navigate Cannes during busy season. The location means you can walk to all the main stuff – the beaches, the shopping, those ridiculously expensive restaurants everyone talks about – but you can also duck into some of the quieter side streets where you’ll find better food for half the price. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re staying in Cannes rather than just visiting it, if that makes sense. Sure, it’s not going to blow your mind with luxury touches, but sometimes what you really want is a comfortable base that doesn’t feel like it’s trying too hard.

Reviews

  • Bojan from Croatia – 8 June 2025 (8/10)

Great location close to beach, clean room, very friendly staff

What could be improved: Rooms are a bit dated and an extra socket in the room would have been appreciated

  • Sarah from Australia – 23 August 2024 (8/10)

Lovely old building, nice reception staff, easy checkin process

What could be improved: A mini fridge in the room would be useful.

  • Lisa from United States – 18 August 2024 (9/10)

    Excellent location. Clean friendly

  • Giovanni from Netherlands – 21 July 2024 (8/10)

The hosts are the most gentle and caring people we have met in during this holiday and visits to many hotels in France. The hotel is extremely charming (like a family home), perfectly located, and even offers private parking.

What could be improved: Some minor issues included limited A/C for a family of four (one room had it, the other didn’t), limited breakfast options (though the croissants were delicious!), and a small shower area with a shower that changed temperature every 10 seconds.

  • Adam from Ireland – 21 August 2023 (9/10)

Hotel located in very busy area but still quiet and we couldn't hear the traffic as such. Room nice and clean as expected. Very nice and helpful staff, highly recommended. There was an issue with automatic payment through booking.com as it didn't go through (mastercard security feature) but they called me and helped to sort it out. Breakfast available but we didn't try it.

What could be improved: Reception is actually open only till 6pm and not 8pm as booking.com says – thankfully they called me in advance and told me how to get in after 6. Coffee is available in lounge but is rather expensive…

  • Ravi from South Africa – 10 August 2023 (9/10)

Great location. Easy walk to the promenade and beaches. Safe to walk late at night.

What could be improved: The rooms were not soundproof so you can hear lots of background noise from the other rooms and passage.

  • Adrien from United States – 4 August 2023 (8/10)

    very clean very nice staff

    What could be improved: nothing

  • Valerie from France – 24 July 2023 (9/10)

Very well located boutique hôtel. Beach, restaurants, shops all at your finger tips. Very generous and tasty breakfast for a very reasonable price
    Parking available without extras

What could be improved: Fir us shower are always better that a bath

  • Tímea from Hungary – 9 July 2023 (9/10)

Good location, nice, cosy and clean room. Generous breakfast with really fresh bread and croissants.

What could be improved: We missed a little fridge from the room, where water can be cooled down, as it was a hot summer time.

  • Sarah from United Kingdom – 4 July 2023 (8/10)

    Friendly, quaint, no too big

What could be improved: A little dated
