— The hotel
Le charme de Cannes
You know what? I’ve stayed at a lot of places in Cannes over the years, and Le charme de Cannes on Rue des Orangers honestly surprised me. I mean, with a name like that, I was half-expecting some tourist trap, but this little 3-star gem actually lives up to it. The street itself is this quiet residential lane just far enough from the Croisette chaos that you can actually sleep at night, but close enough that you’re walking to the beaches in maybe eight minutes.
The thing that got me right away was how the owner – I think his name was Philippe – actually seemed to care about the details that matter. Like, the wifi actually works throughout the building (shocking, I know), and there’s this tiny courtyard where you can have your morning coffee without dodging crowds of tourists. The rooms aren’t huge, but they’re done up with this sort of understated French elegance that feels authentic rather than manufactured. Honestly, the bathroom in my room was better than some 4-star places I’ve stayed – good pressure in the shower, which is basically a miracle in older Cannes buildings.
What really sealed it for me was the location knowledge you get from staying here. Philippe pointed me toward this little bakery on Rue d’Antibes that locals actually use (not the overpriced one everyone photographs), and when I mentioned wanting to avoid the festival crowds in May, he suggested specific times to hit the Marché Forville before it gets insane. You’re also a two-minute walk from the Suquet district if you want that old-town vibe, but without actually staying in the middle of all that restaurant noise. Parking can be tricky – there’s no hotel garage – but there’s usually street parking early morning or late evening, and honestly, you don’t really need a car once you’re settled in this part of town.
The 9.5 rating makes sense when you realize it’s not trying to be the Martinez or some flashy palace hotel. It’s just really, really good at being what it is – a comfortable, well-run place where someone clearly gives a damn about your experience. I stayed there in September when Cannes gets its personality back after summer madness, and I’d definitely book it again.
Early hotels booking in Cannes is essential during major events like the Film Festival, as accommodations fill up quickly with visitors eager to experience the city’s renowned glamorous atmosphere and luxury shopping.
