— The hotel
LES ALGUES T2
Look, I’ll be straight with you about Les Algues T2 – it’s one of those places that grows on you once you figure out what it’s actually about. When I first pulled up to 94 Boulevard Eugène Gazagnaire, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect from a 3-star spot in this part of Cannes. But here’s the thing about Pointe Croisette that most people don’t realize – you’re actually in this perfect sweet spot where you can walk to all the glitzy stuff on the Croisette (I mean, it’s literally a 10-minute stroll to the Palais des Festivals), but you’re not paying those insane beachfront prices or dealing with the constant tourist chaos right outside your window.
The hotel itself has this understated French apartment vibe – and I say that in a good way. The T2 rooms are basically studio apartments with separate sleeping areas, which honestly makes so much more sense than cramming everything into one tiny hotel room. You’ve got space to actually unpack, a little kitchenette that’s surprisingly useful (especially since eating out in Cannes every meal will destroy your budget), and windows that open to let in that Mediterranean breeze. What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night – Boulevard Eugène Gazagnaire isn’t one of those streets where people are stumbling around at 3 AM after the clubs close. The staff was pretty solid too, though don’t expect them to hold your hand through every tourist question. They’re friendly but efficient in that French way where they assume you’re a competent adult who can figure out how to get to the beach.
You know what really sold me on this place? It’s the kind of spot where you can live like a local for a few days instead of just being another tourist checking boxes. There’s a proper French bakery about two blocks down that opens at 6:30 AM – the smell of fresh croissants drifting up the street is better than any wake-up call. The Marché Forville is close enough for morning market runs, and when you need a break from the Cannes scene, you can catch the bus to Antibes or Nice right from the neighborhood. Sure, it’s not going to blow your mind with fancy amenities or Instagram-worthy lobbies, but sometimes you just want a clean, comfortable base where you can drop your bags and explore without feeling like you’re staying in a tourist trap. The 7-point rating seems about right – it’s definitely above average for what you’re paying, especially if you book outside of festival season when half the city turns into a circus.
