— The hotel
LM Studio by Welcome to Cannes
You know what caught me off guard about LM Studio? The name makes it sound like some trendy tech space, but honestly, it’s just a really solid little hotel right in the thick of Cannes’ city center. I mean, when you’re staying on rue Latour Maubourg – which is basically a stone’s throw from the Palais des Festivals – you’re not exactly roughing it location-wise.
The thing is, this isn’t one of those flashy Croisette hotels where you’re paying for marble lobbies and doormen in white gloves. It’s more like… well, imagine if your stylish friend had a spare apartment in the best part of town and actually knew how to make guests comfortable. The rooms have this clean, modern vibe without trying too hard, and honestly, after walking around Cannes all day (trust me, you’ll be doing a lot of walking), you’ll appreciate that the beds are actually decent and the AC works properly. I stayed there during the shoulder season in September, and while you could hear a bit of street noise in the evenings – it’s the city center, after all – it died down pretty reasonably by midnight.
What I really liked was how the staff seemed to actually know their neighborhood. Like, when I asked about grabbing coffee that wasn’t tourist-trap expensive, the guy at reception didn’t just point me toward the nearest chain – he sent me to this little place two streets over where locals actually go. And parking… well, let’s be real, parking in central Cannes is always going to be a bit of a nightmare, but they’ve got arrangements with a nearby garage that won’t completely destroy your budget. The whole area around Latour Maubourg feels properly French, you know? You’ve got your boulangerie, your tabac, people walking their tiny dogs – but you’re still close enough to the festival palace and the beaches that you’re not spending half your day on transport. I actually found myself walking to the old port most evenings just because it was such an easy stroll. The 8.5 rating makes sense to me – it’s not trying to be the Ritz, but for a three-star place, they’ve really figured out what matters. Clean, comfortable, well-located, and run by people who seem to get that travelers want local insight along with their room keys.
