Modern apartment with 3 bedrooms balcony communal garden and AC- Benakey
Honestly, when I first pulled up to 5 rue du Lac, I wasn’t sure what to expect – the street’s pretty quiet and residential, which actually turned out to be perfect. This place (they call it Benakey, though I’m still not sure how to pronounce it) is basically a proper apartment that someone’s converted into holiday accommodation, and they’ve done it really well. The building itself looks typically Cannes – you know, that cream-colored facade with the green shutters – but once you’re inside, it’s surprisingly modern without feeling sterile.
The three bedrooms are genuinely spacious, not like those cramped hotel rooms where you’re bumping into furniture every five minutes. I mean, the master bedroom actually fits a proper wardrobe, which is saying something for Cannes real estate. What really sold me though was the balcony – it’s not huge, but it catches the morning sun perfectly, and you can actually see a sliver of the Med if you crane your neck just right. The communal garden was a nice surprise too; there’s this little seating area where I’d grab coffee in the mornings before the day got too hot. You’ll appreciate the AC more than you think – even in late spring, Cannes can get pretty stuffy, especially if you’re on an upper floor like this one.
Location-wise, it’s about a 15-minute walk to the Palais des Festivals, which sounds far but honestly isn’t when you consider you’re avoiding all the tourist chaos around the port. There’s a Monoprix about five minutes away on Boulevard Carnot (lifesaver for breakfast supplies and decent wine), and the local boulangerie – well, you’ll smell it before you see it. Parking was surprisingly straightforward; there’s street parking that’s not too competitive, unlike anywhere near the Croisette where you’re basically gambling with your sanity. The check-in was smooth enough, though the owner only speaks French and very basic English, so brush up on your “Bonjour” and “Merci beaucoup.”
One thing that impressed me – and this might sound small – was how quiet it gets at night. You’re close enough to feel connected to the city but far enough that you’re not dealing with drunk tourists stumbling home from the casino at 3 AM. The apartment sleeps six comfortably, maybe eight if you’re traveling with kids who don’t mind sharing. It’s definitely more of a “stay and live like a local” vibe than a “pamper me with room service” situation, but that worked perfectly for us. Plus, with that 8.7 rating, clearly other people are figuring out what makes this spot special too.
