— The hotel
Ocean View Royal Palm
You know what caught me off guard about Ocean View Royal Palm? The name actually delivers – I mean, you really can see the Mediterranean from most rooms, which honestly isn’t always the case with these “ocean view” places. It sits right on Boulevard du Midi Louise Moreau, and if you’re not familiar with Cannes, that’s basically the sweet spot where you’re close enough to La Croisette to walk there in about ten minutes, but far enough away that you’re not drowning in the crazy crowds and tourist chaos.
The hotel itself has that classic French Riviera charm without trying too hard – think clean lines, lots of white and blue (obviously), and those shuttered windows that actually keep your room cool during the brutal August heat. I stayed here during the shoulder season in late September, and honestly, that might be the perfect time. The staff was genuinely helpful rather than just going through the motions, and the check-in was refreshingly quick. What I really appreciated were the little details: the lobby smells like lavender instead of generic hotel air freshener, and there’s this tiny terrace area where you can actually sit with your morning coffee and watch the locals heading to work. The rooms aren’t huge – this is France, after all – but they’re thoughtfully laid out, and the beds are legitimately comfortable.
Here’s the thing about the location that most people don’t realize until they get there: you’re positioned perfectly to explore the real Cannes, not just the glitzy stuff. There’s a fantastic little market on Rue Meynardier that’s maybe a five-minute walk away, and if you head toward the old town (Le Suquet), you’ll hit some incredible bistros that the cruise ship crowds never find. The beach access is solid too – you can walk to both the public beaches and the fancier private club sections depending on your mood and budget. Parking can be a bit of a headache during peak season (I mean, it’s Cannes), but the hotel has a few spots and they’ll point you toward reasonable public options nearby. The 8.9 rating makes total sense when you factor in that this place delivers exactly what it promises without the inflated prices you’ll find closer to the Palais des Festivals. It’s not trying to be the George V, but for a well-located three-star that actually cares about the guest experience, you’d be hard-pressed to do better in this part of town.
