You know what struck me first about PLEIN SUD? The name literally means “facing south” in French, and honestly, that tells you everything about this place’s vibe – it’s all about soaking up that Mediterranean warmth. When you walk up to 16 Rue des Belges, you’re maybe three minutes from the Croisette if you’re walking slowly, but tucked away just enough that you won’t hear the tourist chaos at night. I mean, Rue des Belges is one of those streets where actual Cannois grab their morning coffee, not just cruise ship passengers hunting for selfie spots.

The “tapis rouge” (red carpet) part of the name isn’t just marketing fluff – there’s actually this subtle theatrical energy to the whole place. It’s a 3-star hotel, sure, but that 9.8 rating didn’t come from nowhere. The staff genuinely seems to get that you’re probably in Cannes for something special, whether it’s the film festival or just wanting to feel fancy for a few days. What I love is how they’ve managed to capture that Riviera glamour without making you feel like you need to dress up to walk through the lobby. The rooms have this clean, almost minimalist French style – think white linens and those shutters that actually block out the morning sun when you’ve had too much rosé the night before.

Location-wise, you’re in that sweet spot where you can walk to everything that matters but still duck back to somewhere that feels residential. The Palais des Festivals is literally a five-minute stroll, and if you head the other direction toward Rue d’Antibes, you’ll hit the real shopping street where locals actually buy things (not just the designer flagship stores on the Croisette that are basically museums with price tags). Parking around here is… well, it’s Cannes, so good luck with that during festival season. But honestly, once you’re settled in, you won’t need a car anyway – everything’s walkable, and the train station is close enough for day trips to Nice or Monaco if you get restless. The whole Cannes city center is compact enough that you start recognizing the same elegant French women walking their tiny dogs, the same café owner who nods when you pass by. That’s when you know you’ve picked a spot that’s actually part of the neighborhood, not just dropped into it.

  The location was absilutley perfect. We were there when they were setting up for the Cannes film festival, so it was very exciting. Celine, our host, was super easy to work with and very heplful. The apartment was exteremely clean and safer than Fort Knox.
  
  What could be improved: Could use additional kitchen towels. There was only one. The hot water ran out quickly, so between the four of us the last two peoplle in the shower had to take a cold shower.
