— The hotel
Residence Veles Plage
You know what caught me off guard about Residence Veles Plage? It’s tucked away on Avenue Dr Picaud, which honestly isn’t where most tourists end up wandering – and that’s exactly why it works so well. I mean, you’re still in Cannes, still close enough to all the madness of the Croisette, but you’re not dealing with the constant buzz of crowds right outside your window.
The place has this laid-back residential vibe that actually feels more like staying in a really nice apartment than a traditional hotel. The staff knows what they’re doing without being overly formal about it, which I appreciated after dealing with some of the stuffier places along the main strip. What really got me was how quiet it stays at night – even during festival season when the rest of Cannes is basically one giant party. The building sits in this pocket of calm that somehow shields you from most of the street noise, though you’ll still catch the occasional late-night reveler if your windows face the avenue (not necessarily a bad thing, honestly).
The location is actually pretty clever when you think about it. You’re about a 10-minute walk to the beach and maybe 15 to the Palais des Festivals, but you’re also right near some of those smaller streets where locals actually eat and shop. There’s this little boulangerie two blocks down that does incredible pain au chocolat – the kind of place you’d never find if you stayed in the tourist zone. Parking can be a bit tricky in the area, like most of Cannes, but the hotel staff seemed to know all the tricks for finding spots nearby. Check-in was smooth, no drama, and they were pretty flexible about timing which matters when you’re dealing with travel delays or long days exploring the Riviera. I’d say the 9.2 rating makes sense – it’s one of those places that just gets the details right without making a big show of it. Perfect if you want to experience Cannes without feeling like you’re living in a postcard the whole time.
