Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to Studio Charlie on Boulevard de Lorraine, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place. But you know what? Sometimes the best surprises come in unassuming packages. This little spot sits right in the heart of Cannes, which means you’re literally a five-minute walk from the Palais des Festivals (yeah, where all the film festival madness happens), but tucked away enough that you’re not dealing with the chaos of the Croisette crowds stumbling past your window at 2 AM.

The studios themselves are actually pretty clever – they’ve maximized every inch of space without making you feel like you’re sleeping in a shoebox. I mean, it’s not going to win any design awards, but there’s something refreshingly honest about the setup. Clean lines, decent lighting, and – this caught me off guard – really good soundproofing considering you’re on a boulevard. The kitchenette situation is legit too; I actually cooked a few meals instead of bleeding money at tourist traps. There’s a Monoprix just around the corner on Rue d’Antibes where you can grab groceries, and honestly, sitting with a simple dinner while watching the evening light hit the buildings across the street became one of my favorite parts of the stay. The staff has this no-nonsense French efficiency that I’ve come to appreciate – they’ll help you out, but they’re not going to hover or pretend everything is “magnifique” when it’s just… good.

What really sold me on this place was the location without the location tax, if that makes sense. You’re close enough to walk to the old port (Port de Cannes) in about eight minutes, where you can catch boats to the islands or just watch the yacht parade – but you’re also positioned perfectly to escape up into Le Suquet, the old town, when the waterfront gets too scene-y. Parking is actually doable here too, which anyone who’s driven in Cannes will tell you is basically a miracle. The neighborhood has this lived-in feel during the day – you’ll see locals doing their actual shopping, kids heading to school, that kind of thing. It’s Cannes, but it’s real Cannes, not just the postcard version. Sure, it’s not going to give you those jaw-dropping sea views or the marble bathroom situation you’d get at the big hotels, but for the price point and that 8.5 rating (which feels about right), Studio Charlie delivers exactly what it promises. Sometimes that’s exactly what you need.

  Short walk from the train station and a local supermarket, and extremely convenient to access the city center and other facilities. The concierge service was fantastic – very responsive and accommodating, even during weekends. The kitchen is surprisingly big for the size of the studio, and the little balcony is welcome plus.
  
  What could be improved: The upstairs neighbor had a daily early morning work out session, that seemed to involve a lot of jumping and weights 😀 … not the studio's fault, but bear in mind the walls are fairly thin!
