— The hotel
SUNRISE & SUNSET PALM BEACH CROISETTE
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first saw the name “Sunrise & Sunset Palm Beach Croisette,” I rolled my eyes a bit. It sounds like they were trying way too hard, you know? But actually staying there changed my mind completely. The place sits right on Avenue Reine Astrid, which is this quieter stretch that most tourists miss because they’re all crowding around the main Croisette action. Smart location, really – you’re literally a three-minute walk from all the glitz, but you can actually sleep at night without hearing drunk festival-goers stumbling past your window at 2 AM.
The hotel itself feels more intimate than those massive palace hotels that dominate the waterfront. I mean, it’s still proper four-star stuff – the lobby has this warm, honey-colored marble that catches the light beautifully, and there’s always fresh lavender in the air (they source it locally, which is a nice touch). What struck me most was how the staff actually remembered my name after the first day. The front desk guy, Philippe, gave me insider tips about which beach clubs were worth the splurge and which ones were just tourist traps. He also warned me that parking can be absolutely brutal during festival season – there’s a small lot behind the hotel, but honestly, you’re better off using the public garage near the Palais des Festivals and walking. It’s maybe eight minutes on foot, and you’ll save yourself the headache.
The rooms aren’t huge – this is Cannes, after all, where space costs more than champagne – but they’re thoughtfully designed. Mine had this little balcony that caught the morning sun perfectly, and I could just glimpse the Mediterranean between the buildings across the street. The bathroom was surprisingly spacious with one of those rainfall showers that actually has decent pressure (you’d be amazed how many hotels mess this up). What I really appreciated was the blackout curtains that actually worked – crucial when you’re dealing with those long summer days and late nights. The 8.3 rating makes total sense to me. It’s not perfect – the Wi-Fi got spotty during peak hours, and the breakfast could use more variety – but there’s something genuinely welcoming about the place. You feel like you’re staying somewhere with character rather than just another corporate hotel. Plus, being on the Pointe Croisette side means you’re closer to the good beaches without the insane crowds. If you’re coming during the film festival, book way ahead and expect to pay through the nose, but for a regular summer visit? This place hits that sweet spot between luxury and actually feeling like home.
