— The hotel
The Loft – Superb 2 bedrooms on top floor with terrace – 10min to Palais & Beach!
You know what hits you first when you walk into The Loft? It’s that instant “oh, this is actually nice” feeling you get when a place exceeds expectations. I mean, the name’s pretty straightforward – it really is a loft, perched on the top floor of this converted building on Avenue Saint-Jean, and honestly, that terrace alone makes the whole booking worth it.
The space feels properly lived-in rather than sterile hotel-room clean, if that makes sense. Two bedrooms that don’t feel cramped (which is saying something for Cannes), and the kitchen’s actually functional – not just some sad mini-fridge situation. What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night, even though you’re basically in the heart of everything. The building’s old enough that the walls are thick, so you’re not dealing with street noise bouncing around like you do in some of the newer places closer to the Croisette. And speaking of location, that “10 minutes to Palais & Beach” thing they mention? It’s legit, but here’s the thing – it’s more like a pleasant 8-minute stroll down toward the harbor area, then you hit that main stretch. You’ll pass this little boulangerie on Rue d’Antibes that does incredible pain au chocolat if you’re up early enough.
The terrace is where this place really shines though. I spent way too many evenings out there with a bottle of wine from the Monoprix down the street, just watching the city settle into that golden hour thing Cannes does so well. You can actually see a sliver of water if you lean over the railing a bit – not exactly a sea view, but you know the Mediterranean’s right there. During Cannes Film Festival season (which, fair warning, is absolutely bonkers around here), you’re close enough to feel the energy but far enough from the Palais that you can actually get some sleep. The whole area gets pretty lively during festival time, but Avenue Saint-Jean stays relatively sane compared to the madness down by the red carpet.
Parking’s always a nightmare in Cannes, but there’s a public garage about two blocks away that’s not terrible price-wise. Check-in was smooth – they’ve got this key box system that actually works, unlike some places I’ve stayed where you’re standing around for twenty minutes trying to figure out the code. The 8.5 rating feels about right; it’s solidly good without being flashy. A few minor things – the shower pressure could be better, and the WiFi gets a bit spotty during peak hours – but nothing that ruins the experience. For what you’re paying versus what you’d spend on a proper hotel room in this part of Cannes, especially one with outdoor space, it’s honestly a pretty smart choice.
