— The hotel
VENDÔME APARTMENT
You know what? I wasn’t expecting much from VENDÔME APARTMENT when I first walked up Boulevard Guynemer – I mean, it’s tucked away from all the Croisette madness, which honestly turned out to be exactly what I needed. The building itself has that understated French elegance thing going on, nothing flashy, but you can tell someone actually cares about the details. The entrance feels more like you’re visiting a well-maintained residential building than checking into a typical hotel, which makes sense given the name.
What really got me was how quiet it is here, especially considering you’re still in the heart of Cannes. Boulevard Guynemer runs parallel to the famous stuff but doesn’t get the same tourist chaos – locals actually walk their dogs here in the evenings, and there’s this little café across the street where the owner remembers your coffee order after two visits. The apartment-style setup means you get proper space to spread out, and honestly, after spending days wandering the festival crowds or beach-hopping, having a real kitchen counter to lean against while eating takeout from the marché felt like luxury. The rooms have this lived-in comfort that three-star places sometimes nail better than the fancy hotels – everything works, it’s clean, but it doesn’t feel precious or intimidating.
I actually ended up staying longer than planned because the location is sort of perfect for exploring beyond the obvious Cannes spots. You’re a five-minute walk from Rue d’Antibes for shopping, but you can also easily slip away to the quieter neighborhoods where actual French people live and eat. The staff – well, it’s more like building management – speaks enough English to help but doesn’t hover, and they gave me solid recommendations for restaurants that weren’t total tourist traps. Parking was surprisingly manageable too, which anyone who’s driven in Cannes will appreciate. The 8-rating makes sense to me because it delivers exactly what it promises without any pretense – comfortable, authentic, and positioned where you can actually experience the city instead of just photographing it. It’s not going to wow you with a rooftop pool or marble bathrooms, but if you want to feel like you’re staying in Cannes rather than just visiting it, this place gets it right.
