— The hotel
Vezelay, by Welcome to Cannes
You know what struck me first about Vezelay? The location is honestly pretty brilliant – it’s tucked away on Marechal Juin, which means you’re literally a three-minute walk from the Pointe Croisette without dealing with all the Boulevard de la Croisette chaos. I mean, you can still hear the buzz from the main strip, but it’s not like you’re trying to sleep next to a nightclub.
The hotel itself has that clean, modern vibe that Welcome to Cannes does well – nothing too fancy or pretentious, just solid four-star comfort that actually delivers. The rooms are bigger than what you’d typically get this close to the action, and honestly, the bathrooms are surprisingly spacious (which, if you’ve stayed in Cannes before, you know is not always a given). What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night. Sure, during the Film Festival or peak summer you’ll catch some street noise, but most of the year it’s actually pretty peaceful. The staff genuinely seems to know the area too – they pointed me toward this little café on Rue d’Antibes that I never would’ve found otherwise, and they were spot-on about timing the beach crowd (apparently 10 AM is the sweet spot before it gets absolutely packed).
Here’s the thing about staying here – you’re close enough to walk to Palais des Festivals in about eight minutes, but you’re also perfectly positioned to explore beyond the tourist bubble. The Marché Forville is an easy stroll when you want real food instead of overpriced tourist stuff, and you can actually get to the train station without dealing with the Croisette traffic if you’re planning day trips to Nice or Monaco. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle (this is Cannes, after all), but the hotel staff knows which nearby lots won’t cost you a fortune. The 8.4 rating makes sense to me – it’s not trying to be the Carlton or the Martinez, but it delivers exactly what most people actually want: a comfortable base, reasonable prices for the location, and staff that doesn’t make you feel like you’re bothering them. I’d definitely come back, especially during shoulder season when you can actually enjoy Cannes without fighting crowds for every restaurant table.
