— The hotel
Villa Etoile Cannes
You know what? Villa Etoile Cannes completely surprised me – and I mean that in the best way possible. When I first pulled up to 40 avenue Jean de Lattre de Tassigny, I’ll be honest, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place. But this little gem sits in this perfectly quiet residential area that’s actually genius if you think about it. You’re far enough from the madness of La Croisette to actually sleep at night (seriously, the difference is huge), but close enough that you can walk to all the action in about 15 minutes. The street itself is lined with these beautiful old villas, so you feel like you’re staying in someone’s elegant neighborhood rather than tourist central.
The thing that really got me was how the staff – especially this woman at reception, I think her name was Sophie – actually seemed to care about making your stay work. She gave me this whole rundown about which buses to take to avoid the crowds (the number 8 is your friend, trust me), and even drew me a little map showing the shortcut to Marché Forville through the side streets. The rooms themselves are clean and comfortable, nothing fancy but everything works properly, which honestly is more than I can say for some of the pricier places I’ve stayed in Cannes. The beds are actually decent – firm enough that you won’t wake up with a backache, and the air conditioning doesn’t sound like a freight train, which is a blessing during those sweltering July nights.
What really sealed the deal for me was the breakfast situation. They serve it in this bright little room with windows that look out onto the garden, and while it’s not some elaborate buffet, they do this thing with fresh local pastries that arrive warm every morning around 8 AM. I mean, sitting there with a proper café au lait and watching the neighborhood wake up slowly – that’s the kind of moment that makes you remember why you travel, you know? The whole place has this relaxed, unpretentious vibe that’s getting harder to find in Cannes these days. Plus, and this is key if you’re driving, they actually have parking spaces that don’t cost a fortune. During the film festival chaos, that alone is worth its weight in gold. Villa Etoile isn’t trying to be the fanciest place on the Côte d’Azur, but it gets all the important stuff right, and sometimes that’s exactly what you need.
Many travelers prefer to book apartments in Cannes through local agencies that offer personalized recommendations and insider knowledge about the best neighborhoods for exploring the city’s rich cinematic heritage.
