Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about Villa Maupassant? The name actually means something here – it’s tucked away on this quiet side street where you can genuinely imagine the famous writer might have wandered around, soaking up that particular Riviera atmosphere that hasn’t really changed all that much. I mean, Rue de la Verrerie isn’t one of those main drags where you’re dodging crowds and overpriced cafés every two seconds. It’s more like… well, it feels residential but you’re still only a few minutes’ walk from all the Cannes action. The building itself has that slightly weathered Mediterranean charm – not glossy resort perfect, but honestly more appealing because of it. There’s something about the way the morning light hits those shutters that makes you want to grab a coffee and just sit there for a while.

What really got me was how the staff seemed to actually know the neighborhood, not just the tourist highlights everyone mentions. When I asked about good places to eat that weren’t total tourist traps, the guy at reception didn’t just hand me a generic brochure – he started drawing this little map on the back of an envelope, pointing out this tiny bistro about three blocks away where apparently half the locals go for lunch. That kind of thing matters, you know? The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid three-star place – clean, comfortable, decent bathroom – but it’s the little touches that made the difference. Like, they’d actually thought about lighting (there’s a proper reading light by the bed, not just some useless decorative lamp), and the windows open wide enough to get that sea breeze in the evenings. Speaking of which, if you end up in one of the upper floor rooms, you can catch glimpses of the water between the buildings, though honestly I spent more time looking down at the street life below.

The location thing is sort of perfect if you’re trying to balance that whole “I’m in glamorous Cannes” experience with actually being able to afford dinner. You’re close enough to walk to the Palais des Festivals – maybe ten minutes if you’re not in a hurry – but far enough from the Croisette madness that you can actually sleep at night without earplugs. I stayed there during shoulder season (late September), and while the main tourist areas were still pretty busy, our little street felt almost sleepy after about 9 PM. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle if you’re driving – there’s not much right on the street, but there’s a public garage maybe two blocks away that’s not too expensive by Cannes standards. The 9.3 rating makes sense to me, honestly. It’s not trying to be something it’s not, but what it does, it does really well. If you want marble lobbies and concierge service, look elsewhere. But if you want a genuinely pleasant place to stay that feels connected to the actual city rather than some tourist bubble, this works.

Apartments in Cannes provide travelers with an authentic local experience, allowing them to shop at traditional Provençal markets and cook with fresh ingredients from the renowned French Mediterranean culinary traditions.

  • Emily from United Kingdom – 25 May 2025 (10/10)

Friendly reception location, proximity to sea, restaurants busses into yiwn

What could be improved: Can’t think of anything to make our stay better it was perfect

  • Jacqui from United Kingdom – 22 September 2024 (8/10)

Beautiful apartment and spotlessly clean, has everything you could want and Pascale who was our host was fantastic and so helpful, the parking is brilliant and very safe

What could be improved: The location is a long way from Cannes at least 45 minutes walk so if you want to go out and have a meal and a drink you have to drive back, there are no nice restaurants near the apartment which is such a shame, we drove to Cannes and Monaco and would definitely use the apartment again as we now know what to expect

  • Aleh from Poland – 20 May 2024 (10/10)

Everything was at the highest level and the incredible view from the apartment, I recommend you to visit this place, you will be satisfied without hesitation!

Location , facilities and view excellent

What could be improved: All good

  • S from Norway – 14 July 2023 (10/10)

The apartement has absolutely everything you need for a pleasent vacation! AC works perfectly, gorgeous view, kitchen is well equipped. Its superclose to the beach and has two pool areas on site as well. Safe parking in a garage, huge plus! We loved staying here 🙂

What could be improved: The only minus is perhaps Boca as an area, and the fact that the train is right in front (after a day you hardly notice though!) But if you have a car or is able to hop on bus/train (which is also very close and convenient), there is little to no problem living here.

  • Christine from Australia – 6 July 2023 (10/10)

Had a car park available & a nice view

What could be improved: There was a train very close to the apartment so we had this great view & a train would go by To far out of Cannes If you didn’t have a car could be a problem

  • Patrizia from United States – 6 June 2023 (9/10)

Muy lindo apartamento, luminoso con vista al mar, totalmente equipado y con parking. Smart Tv. Totalmente recomendable

  • Kiarash from United States – 31 December 2022 (10/10)

This is a great apartment, at an awesome location. It has everything you need. We loved our stay here and we will return to stay here. Covered parking space.

What could be improved: Absolutely nothing! We lived everything about this place.

  • Chef from Canada – 5 December 2022 (10/10)

What a great place. Well laid out and views of the the Med from every room. An a comfortable bed and nice bathroom with shower. It looks just like the pictures. Private parking and very good WIFI. We would come back here in a flash. Easy walk to bakeries and groceries and the beach. Seven minute drive into Cannes. You should know that there is a train track that runs by the property but after the first day we did not really notice. This is a very nice well kept clean rental.

What could be improved: The only downer was and this was just our luck. We needed to get to the Nice airport so we needed to leave at 3am in the morning. And the elevator would not work so had to go down 5 flights of stairs twice. There was a notice on the elevator that week that they where coming for maintenance work the day we left so I guess it gave up the ghost before they got there. But we would not let that stop us from renting here again.

  • Fraternalsi from United Kingdom – 24 March 2025 (9/10)

Location great – near shops and all facilities

Apartment was well serviced internally and block was generally clean and tidy

Pascale (concierge) was excellent and very friendly.

What could be improved: The actual block was dated and the outside facilities were not that pretty – it is obviously a mixture of permanent residential and rented properties

The sofa in the living room was not that comfortable for long periods of sitting (as it's a bed-settee!)

The ceiling in the bathroom needs some slight attention (re-decoration) after previous water damage
