Villa sur le toit – Vue mer exceptionnelle
Look, I’ve stayed at plenty of places along the Croisette, but Villa sur le toit genuinely surprised me – and I mean that in the best way possible. The address says Rue de Russie, which honestly doesn’t sound that impressive until you realize you’re literally a three-minute walk from all the Croisette action but tucked away enough that you’re not dealing with the constant stream of tourists dragging their wheeled suitcases over cobblestones at 7 AM.
The “vue mer exceptionnelle” part isn’t just French marketing fluff – they actually deliver on that promise. From the rooftop (which, okay, is where the magic really happens), you get this sweeping view that takes in the bay and, on clear days, you can make out the Îles de Lérins floating out there. I spent way too many evenings up there with a glass of wine, watching the mega-yachts drift in and out of the old port. The rooms themselves have that polished boutique hotel feel without being stuffy about it – think clean lines, decent bathrooms, and yes, most of them have at least partial sea views. My room had this little balcony that was barely big enough for two people, but honestly, that’s all you need when you’re looking out at the Mediterranean.
What I really appreciated was how the staff seemed to actually know Cannes, not just the obvious tourist spots. The guy at reception (I think his name was Laurent?) steered me toward this tiny restaurant on Rue Saint-Antoine that I never would’ve found otherwise, and he was spot-on about timing my walk to avoid the festival crowds – apparently there’s this sweet spot around 4 PM when everyone’s either at the beach or taking their afternoon break. Parking can be a bit of a headache in this part of town, I’ll be honest, but they’ve got a partnership with a garage about two blocks away, and the rate isn’t completely insane by Cannes standards. The area gets pretty quiet after the restaurants close, which was perfect for actually sleeping – though during festival season, well, all bets are off anywhere in Cannes. The 9.1 rating makes sense to me because this place gets the fundamentals right without trying too hard to be something it’s not. It’s comfortable, the location is genuinely useful, and that rooftop view is something you’ll definitely end up showing off in your photos.
