— The hotel
Viva Riviera – 10 Rue Commandant André
So I’ve stayed at the Viva Riviera a handful of times now, and honestly? It’s one of those places that just works. You know how some hotels try too hard to be fancy and end up feeling fake? This isn’t that. It’s a proper 3-star that knows exactly what it is – comfortable, well-located, and refreshingly straightforward.
The thing about this spot on Rue Commandant André is that you’re literally in the heart of Cannes without the insane price tag of the Carlton or Martinez. I mean, you can walk to the Palais des Festivals in maybe eight minutes, and the main shopping stretch along Rue d’Antibes is right there. But here’s what I really love – you’re tucked just far enough off the main drag that you don’t get the constant buzz of scooters and late-night revelers that plague some of the hotels right on La Croisette. Well, mostly anyway. During the film festival all bets are off, but that’s Cannes for you.
The rooms are… look, they’re not going to blow your mind with cutting-edge design, but they’re clean and thoughtfully put together. I actually appreciate that they haven’t tried to cram in unnecessary “luxury” touches that just jack up the price. The beds are genuinely comfortable (I’m picky about this), and the bathrooms have decent water pressure – something you can’t take for granted in older French buildings. The staff has this lovely mix of professional efficiency and actual helpfulness that feels distinctly French Riviera without the attitude you sometimes get at the flashier places. They’ll actually tell you where locals eat instead of just pointing you toward the tourist traps on the port.
Parking is… well, it’s Cannes, so it’s complicated everywhere, but there’s a public garage about a three-minute walk away that’s not completely ridiculous price-wise. If you’re coming during festival season or summer peak, just embrace the fact that you’ll be walking a bit more than usual. The neighborhood has this nice residential feel once you step off the main streets – there’s a little bakery around the corner that does these incredible pain au chocolat, and honestly, starting your morning there instead of paying hotel breakfast prices is the way to go. You’ll see actual Cannois picking up their daily bread, which always feels like a small victory when you’re traveling.
What really sells me on this place is that 7.8 rating – it feels earned rather than inflated. The Viva Riviera doesn’t promise more than it can deliver, and in a town where hotels can coast on location alone, that’s actually pretty refreshing. It’s the kind of place where you sleep well, wake up ready to explore, and don’t feel like you’ve either overpaid for unnecessary frills or sacrificed comfort to save money. For Cannes, that balance is harder to find than you’d think.
The concierge service in Cannes can arrange exclusive access to film screenings, secure reservations at celebrity-frequented restaurants, and organize personalized visits to the Palais des Festivals and nearby islands.
