Hotel Description
You know what? I almost walked right past this place the first time I was looking for it on Rue du Dr Raymond Picaud. The name “A 2 pas des plages du Midi” is a bit of a mouthful, and honestly, the building doesn’t scream “look at me” from the street – but that’s actually part of its charm. It sits quietly in this residential pocket of Cannes, maybe a seven-minute walk from the Midi beaches (hence the name, which literally means “2 steps from the Midi beaches”), and it feels more like staying in a local neighborhood than being stuck in the tourist madness of La Croisette.
The thing that really got me was how the owner – I think his name was Michel – actually knew the area like the back of his hand. He pointed me toward this little bakery around the corner on Avenue du Docteur Pascal that I never would’ve found otherwise, and when I mentioned I was thinking about renting a bike, he just casually mentioned that the bike shop two streets over gives better rates than the touristy ones near the port. The rooms themselves are what you’d expect from a solid 3-star – clean, comfortable beds, decent-sized bathrooms with good water pressure (which, let me tell you, isn’t always a given in older French buildings). Mine had this small balcony that looked out over the neighborhood rooftops, and in the evenings you could hear the distant sound of the waves mixed with people chatting at the café terraces below. It’s not luxury, but it’s got character – the kind of place where the morning light filters through gauze curtains and makes everything feel a bit romantic, even if you’re just checking your phone and planning your day.
What I really appreciated was the location’s sweet spot factor. You’re close enough to walk to Plage du Midi in flip-flops (and I mean actually close, not “Mediterranean close” which can mean anything), but far enough from the Palais des Festivals chaos that you can actually sleep at night. The neighborhood has that lived-in feel – there’s a small Monoprix for groceries, a few family-run restaurants where locals eat, and you’re still only about fifteen minutes on foot to the old port if you want to get fancy for dinner. Parking can be a bit tricky during festival season – I mean, it’s Cannes, so that’s sort of expected – but Michel helped me figure out the street parking situation, and there’s a public lot about three blocks away that’s not too expensive by Cannes standards. Look, this isn’t the kind of place you’d book if you want to feel like a movie star, but if you want to stay somewhere that feels authentically French and lets you experience Cannes like someone who actually lives there, it’s perfect.
To book a hotel in Cannes during the famous Cannes Film Festival season, visitors should make reservations well in advance as the city attracts celebrities and film industry professionals from around the world.
