Hotel Description
You know what struck me first about Hotel Candy? The name made me expect something kitschy or over-the-top, but honestly, this place is just… solid. Really solid. It sits right on rue d’Antibes, which — if you’ve been to Cannes before — you’ll know is that perfect sweet spot where you’re close enough to everything but not drowning in the Croisette madness. I mean, you’re literally a five-minute walk from the beach and all that glitzy waterfront action, but when you turn onto this street, it actually feels like you can breathe.
The thing about three-star hotels in Cannes is they can go either way — some try too hard to punch above their weight, others just phone it in. Candy gets it right by not pretending to be something it’s not. The rooms are clean and comfortable (I stayed in one facing the street, which gets a bit of traffic noise during the day but nothing crazy), and the staff genuinely seems to care about making your stay work. The front desk guy — I think his name was Laurent — knew exactly which bakery to send me to for proper croissants (it’s the one two blocks down toward the port, not the touristy one everyone sees first). That kind of local knowledge matters when you’re trying to eat well without getting completely ripped off.
What really sold me on this place was the timing aspect. During the film festival, forget about it — everything in Cannes is either booked solid or criminally overpriced. But in shoulder season, Candy becomes this perfect base camp. You can walk to the Palais des Festivals in fifteen minutes if you’re curious, hit the morning market at Forville (which is actually worth your time, unlike some of the other “authentic” experiences around here), and still get back to a quiet room when the crowds get overwhelming. The neighborhood has that lived-in feel too — there’s a little épicerie right around the corner where locals actually shop, and the café across the street makes decent coffee without charging resort prices. I’ll be honest, the décor isn’t going to win any design awards, but everything works, the Wi-Fi is reliable, and the shower pressure is better than half the fancier places I’ve stayed along the coast. Sometimes that’s exactly what you need.
