— The hotel
Choose to be central !
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first saw the name “Choose to be central!” I thought it was a bit cheesy, but you know what? They’re not wrong. This little 3-star place on Boulevard Carnot is actually positioned perfectly if you want to experience Cannes without the insane prices of the Croisette hotels.
The thing about this spot is that you’re literally a 5-minute walk from all the action, but tucked away just enough that you’re not dealing with the constant chaos of the main tourist strips. Boulevard Carnot runs parallel to the fancy waterfront area, so you get the best of both worlds – easy access to everything, but you can actually sleep at night without hearing drunk tourists stumbling around at 3 AM. I mean, during the Film Festival all bets are off, but that’s true anywhere in Cannes during that madness. The walk down to La Croisette is actually pleasant – you’ll pass some great little cafés and that amazing bakery on Rue d’Antibes that locals line up at every morning (seriously, get the pain au chocolat there, not at the hotel).
What surprised me most was how the staff actually seemed to know the area well. The guy at reception – I think his name was Philippe – gave me directions to this tiny restaurant in Le Suquet that I never would have found otherwise, and it ended up being one of my favorite meals of the trip. That’s the kind of local knowledge you don’t get at the big chain places. The rooms themselves are… well, they’re exactly what you’d expect from a solid 3-star. Nothing fancy, but clean, comfortable beds, decent shower pressure, and the AC actually works (which honestly isn’t a given in some of these older French hotels). Some rooms face the boulevard so there’s a bit of street noise during the day, but it dies down pretty early. The décor is sort of timeless in that slightly dated way – think clean lines and neutral colors, nothing that’ll wow you on Instagram but nothing that’ll make you cringe either.
Parking is the real win here though – they have a small lot behind the building, and in Cannes, that’s like finding gold. Most places either don’t have parking at all or charge you 25 euros a night for the privilege. The neighborhood has that lived-in feel where you’ll see actual French people going about their daily lives, not just tourists taking selfies. There’s a small market on Saturday mornings just two blocks away where you can grab fresh fruit and cheese – perfect for beach picnics since you’re so close to the good swimming spots past all the private beach clubs. Honestly, for the price point and location, it’s a smart choice if you want to experience Cannes properly without blowing your entire budget on accommodations.
