— The hotel
Eider croisette
You know what struck me first about the Eider Croisette? It’s actually right there on Boulevard de la Croisette – I mean, you’re literally steps from where all those red carpet moments happen during the film festival – but somehow it doesn’t feel like you’re paying those insane beachfront prices. It’s one of those 3-star places that punches way above its weight, honestly.
The thing about staying here is you get this perfect sweet spot location without the chaos. Sure, you can walk to the Palais des Festivals in maybe three minutes (I timed it because, well, you do these things), but the hotel sits just far enough from the craziest part of the Croisette that you’re not dealing with massive crowds right outside your door. The morning I was there, I could actually hear the Mediterranean from my room – not the traffic, which was pretty surprising given how central everything is. The rooms are clean and comfortable, nothing fancy but they’ve got that French efficiency thing down. My shower had decent pressure, which honestly matters more than marble countertops when you’ve been walking around Cannes all day.
What really sold me on this place was how the staff just… got it, you know? They didn’t oversell anything or act like they were running some palace, but they knew their neighborhood inside and out. When I asked about grabbing coffee that wasn’t tourist-trap terrible, the guy at reception sent me to this little place on Rue d’Antibes – locals everywhere, perfect café au lait. That’s the kind of intel you want. The hotel itself feels refreshingly unpretentious for Cannes, which can get pretty over-the-top pretty fast. I mean, you’re still in the heart of everything – La Malmaison museum is right there, the old port is a pleasant five-minute stroll, and if you want to do the whole luxury shopping thing, Rue d’Antibes has you covered. But at night, it’s actually quiet enough to sleep, which trust me, isn’t a given in this part of town. The 8.4 rating makes total sense once you’re there – it’s not trying to be something it’s not, just doing the fundamentals really well in a location that should probably cost twice as much.
