— The hotel
Hypercentre – Palais – Croisette – Suquet – AY
You know what struck me first about this place? The fact that it’s tucked away on the third floor of a building right on Rue Meynadier – and honestly, that’s actually perfect. I mean, you’re literally in the thick of everything that makes Cannes feel alive, but you’re just elevated enough to escape the constant buzz of the pedestrian street below.
The location is ridiculously good if you know Cannes at all. Rue Meynadier is this narrow, winding street that cuts right through the old town – it’s where locals actually shop for groceries and grab their morning coffee, not just the touristy spots. You can walk to the Palais des Festivals in maybe eight minutes (I timed it), and the Croisette is right there too, but here’s the thing – you can also wander up into Le Suquet, the old quarter with those incredible views over the bay, in about the same time. The apartment’s name sort of gives it away – Hypercentre, Palais, Croisette, Suquet – they’re basically telling you you’re at the crossroads of everything worth seeing.
What I really appreciated was how the space felt authentically Cannois, if that makes sense. Being on the third floor means you get these glimpses of the Mediterranean lifestyle – the sounds of the morning market setting up, the scent of fresh bread drifting up from the boulangerie downstairs, that sort of thing. The building itself has that classic French Riviera character, nothing too fancy but solid and well-maintained. And honestly, for a 3-star place, the attention to detail surprised me. The rating of 9 starts to make sense when you realize they’ve nailed the basics really well rather than trying to be something they’re not. The beds are comfortable (actually comfortable, not just “adequate”), the Wi-Fi works properly, and the kitchen setup lets you grab fresh ingredients from the market street below and actually cook something decent. I found myself making coffee in the morning and just listening to the neighborhood wake up – it felt more like staying in someone’s well-appointed apartment than a typical hotel experience. The only minor thing is that being right in the center means it can get a bit lively in the evenings, especially during festival season, but honestly? That’s part of the charm. You’re not here to hide away in some sterile resort – you’re here to be part of Cannes, and this place delivers on that completely.
