— The hotel
Jaurès Home by Welcome to Cannes
You know what? I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place on rue Jean Jaurès – honestly, I picked Jaurès Home mainly because it was right in the city center and didn’t break the bank. But this little spot actually surprised me in the best way. The building itself is pretty typical for that part of Cannes, sandwiched between other narrow facades, but once you’re inside, there’s this really welcoming vibe that feels more like staying at a friend’s well-appointed apartment than a hotel. The Welcome to Cannes folks clearly put thought into the details – I mean, the linens were actually nice (not that scratchy hotel stuff), and there were these small touches like proper hangers and decent lighting that you don’t always get at this price point.
What really sold me on the place was the location, though. Rue Jean Jaurès runs parallel to the main shopping drag, so you’re literally a two-minute walk from all the action on rue d’Antibes, but far enough away that you’re not hearing drunk tourists stumbling back at 3 AM during festival season. I could walk to the Palais des Festivals in about eight minutes – I timed it because, well, I’m that person – and the train station is maybe ten minutes if you’re not dragging heavy luggage. The morning I left, I grabbed coffee at this little place called Café de la Poste just around the corner, and it hit me that I’d been staying in an actual neighborhood, not some touristy bubble. There’s a small Monoprix about three blocks away if you need basics, and honestly, the whole area feels pretty safe even late at night.
The staff deserves a mention too – check-in was smooth, no weird surprise fees or anything, and when I had questions about getting to Nice airport, they actually gave me useful advice instead of just shrugging. My room was on the third floor (there is an elevator, thank god), and while it wasn’t huge, everything felt thoughtfully arranged. The bathroom was modern and the shower had proper water pressure, which sounds basic but you’d be surprised how many places get that wrong. I guess my only real complaint would be that the walls are a bit thin – I could hear my neighbors’ TV some evenings, but nothing terrible. For a 9.3 rating, I was skeptical at first, but after staying there? Yeah, I get it. It’s not fancy, but it does everything right without any pretense, and sometimes that’s exactly what you want in Cannes.
