— The hotel
Magnifique appartement centre-ville – Palais 5min
Look, I’ve stayed in a lot of places in Cannes over the years, and this little apartment on Boulevard d’Alsace honestly surprised me. When I first saw the address, I thought “okay, Boulevard d’Alsace – that’s going to be busy,” and yeah, there’s definitely some street noise during the day. But here’s the thing nobody tells you: this stretch is actually perfect because you’re literally a five-minute walk from the Palais des Festivals (I timed it), but you’re not stuck in that tourist chaos around the Croisette where everything costs double and you can’t move during festival season.
The apartment itself feels like someone’s actual home rather than one of those sterile hotel boxes. I mean, it’s not luxury – it’s a solid 3-star spot – but there’s character here. The kitchen actually has proper knives and decent cookware, which was a godsend because I picked up some amazing stuff at the Marché Forville (that’s maybe a 7-minute walk if you’re curious). The bed was comfortable enough that I didn’t wake up feeling like I’d been wrestling with the mattress all night, and honestly, after walking around Cannes all day, that matters more than thread count. What really got me was the little details – decent water pressure in the shower, windows that actually block out light when you need to sleep in, and the WiFi didn’t cut out every ten minutes like some places I could mention.
You know what I loved most about the location? You’re in this sweet spot where you can walk to everything that matters – the old town (Le Suquet) is maybe 15 minutes if you don’t mind a bit of uphill, and you can hit the beach at Plage du Midi without fighting through the Croisette crowds. Plus, there’s this little boulangerie right around the corner that does incredible pain aux raisins – I may have had one every morning, no regrets. The République area has that authentic French neighborhood vibe where you’ll hear locals chatting on their balconies in the evening, which beats the sterile hotel district any day. Parking can be tricky (this is Cannes, after all), but there are spots if you’re patient, and honestly, once you’re settled in, you won’t need the car much anyway. The 9.1 rating makes total sense to me – it’s not trying to be something it’s not, but it delivers exactly what you need for exploring Cannes without breaking the bank or dealing with the pretentious stuff that comes with staying right on the water.
