MOB HOTEL Cannes
You know what caught me off guard about MOB HOTEL Cannes? It’s actually tucked away on Avenue de Lyon in the Carnot neighborhood, which means you’re close enough to all the Cannes action but far enough from the Croisette crowds that you can actually think straight. I mean, don’t get me wrong – you can still walk to the Palais des Festivals in about fifteen minutes, but you’re not dealing with that relentless tourist chaos right outside your window.
The whole vibe here is honestly refreshing for Cannes. Instead of trying to be another stuffy luxury property, MOB goes for this sort of creative, almost industrial-chic thing that actually works. The lobby has this raw concrete aesthetic mixed with vintage furniture and local art – it feels more like staying at a friend’s really cool apartment than a traditional hotel. The rooms are compact but cleverly designed (honestly, most Cannes hotels pack you in like sardines anyway, so at least here it feels intentional). What I really appreciated was the attention to small details – proper USB ports by the bed, decent lighting for actually reading, and blackout curtains that, well, actually black out the room. You’d be surprised how many places mess that up.
The Carnot location is kind of genius when you think about it. You’re walking distance to Rue d’Antibes for shopping and restaurants, but you can also easily explore some of the residential streets where locals actually live and eat. There’s this little bakery just around the corner on Rue de Mimont that does incredible pain au chocolat – the kind of spot you’d never find if you were staying right on the Croisette. Parking can be a bit tricky in the area (it’s street parking mostly), but honestly that’s just Cannes for you. The train station is also super accessible from here, which is clutch if you want to hop over to Nice or Monaco for a day trip. I stayed here during the shoulder season in October, and while it was definitely quieter than the festival madness, you could tell this place would have great energy when it’s busy – the common areas and rooftop space are designed for people to actually hang out and meet each other, not just pass through like ghosts.
