— The hotel
Venizelos
You know what struck me first about the Venizelos? It’s tucked away on this quiet little street that somehow feels completely removed from the Cannes chaos, even though you’re literally a five-minute walk from the Palais des Festivals. I mean, rue Venizelos isn’t one of those main drags that tourists usually know about, but that’s exactly why it works so well.
The building itself has this understated French charm – nothing flashy, which honestly feels refreshing in a city where everything seems designed to impress. When I walked in, the lobby had that lived-in elegance that three-star places do best when they actually care about the details. The staff genuinely seemed to know the neighborhood, not just the scripted tourist spots. They pointed me toward this little café around the corner that I never would’ve found otherwise, and when I mentioned I was hoping to avoid the festival crowds (this was during one of the smaller film events), they actually gave me specific timing advice about when La Croisette gets unbearable.
What really sells this place, though, is the location intelligence. You’re close enough to walk to the beach – maybe eight minutes to hit the sand – but far enough from the main hotel strip that you’re not dealing with tour groups clogging the sidewalks at 7 AM. The rooms are solid for what you’re paying; nothing revolutionary, but the beds are actually comfortable and the bathrooms are properly updated. I appreciated that the windows opened (you’d be surprised how many places here seal you in with AC), so you could get that Mediterranean breeze going in the evening. There’s some street noise, but it’s the good kind – people heading to dinner, not traffic or construction.
Parking is always a nightmare in Cannes, but they work with a garage that’s maybe a three-minute walk away, and the rate they negotiated is way better than what you’d pay trying to figure it out yourself. The whole operation just feels like people who understand that travelers want to enjoy Cannes without getting gouged or stressed out by all the usual tourist traps. That 9.2 rating makes sense when you stay there – it’s not trying to be the Majestic, but it nails everything it is trying to do.
The concierge service in Cannes can arrange exclusive access to film screenings, secure reservations at celebrity-frequented restaurants, and organize personalized visits to the Palais des Festivals and nearby islands.
