RARE ! Stylish duplex in the heart of Cannes
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to 9 rue des halles, I almost missed it entirely. The entrance is tucked between a couple of storefronts in this narrow street that most tourists barrel right past on their way to the Croisette. But that’s actually what makes this place kind of brilliant, you know? You’re literally in the thick of everything Cannes has to offer, but without the insane hustle that comes with staying right on the waterfront.
The duplex itself is… well, it’s definitely stylish, though I’d say it leans more toward that clean, modern aesthetic than anything traditionally French. The stairs between levels are pretty steep (fair warning if you’re hauling heavy luggage), but once you’re settled in, there’s something really satisfying about having that extra vertical space. The windows face into the old town, so you get these glimpses of daily life – people heading to the morning market at Forville, which is honestly just a three-minute walk away. I mean, you can smell the fresh bread from the boulangerie downstairs most mornings, which isn’t the worst way to wake up. The neighborhood gets a bit lively in the evenings – rue des halles connects to some popular bars and the restaurant scene – so if you’re a light sleeper, maybe pack some earplugs.
What I really appreciated was how the owner clearly knows Cannes isn’t just about the film festival crowd. Sure, you can walk to the Palais des Festivals in about eight minutes, but you’re also perfectly positioned for the stuff locals actually care about. The Suquet (the old quarter) is right there when you want to escape tourist central, and honestly, some of the best restaurants in town are hidden in these winding streets behind the property. The rating sits at 7.2, which feels about right – it’s not going to blow your mind with luxury touches, but it delivers on the basics with a bit of personality thrown in. The kitchen setup is solid enough for making breakfast or a simple dinner, though with places like Aux Bons Enfants practically around the corner, you might not use it much. Parking is… well, it’s Cannes, so good luck with that. But the train station is walkable if you’re coming from Nice or anywhere along the coast, and honestly, once you’re here, everything worth seeing is on foot anyway.
