Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to Serenity on Rue Alphonse de Lamartine, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place. But you know what? Sometimes the quiet ones surprise you. This little hotel sits in one of those residential pockets of Cannes where actual French people live, about a 10-minute walk from all the Croisette madness, and that distance actually works in your favor.

The street itself is pretty typical for this part of town – tree-lined, narrow sidewalks, those classic French apartment buildings with the wrought-iron balconies. What I really appreciated was how peaceful it gets at night. During the film festival chaos (which, let’s face it, is when Cannes pricing goes absolutely insane), you can actually sleep here without hearing drunk tourists stumbling back from the bars until 3 AM. The rooms aren’t huge – I mean, this is France, not a Vegas resort – but they’re thoughtfully laid out. Mine had this small balcony that looked out over the neighborhood rooftops, and honestly, sipping coffee there in the morning while listening to the local bakery’s delivery truck rumble by felt more authentically French than staring at cruise ships from some overpriced palace hotel.

Here’s the thing that really sold me on this place: the staff actually knows the neighborhood. When I asked about dinner spots, they didn’t just point me toward the tourist traps on Rue d’Antibes. Instead, they sent me to this little bistro three blocks over where the menu was still in French and I watched local families having their Sunday lunch. That’s the kind of insider knowledge you get when a hotel is family-run and the people working there have been in the area for years, not just seasonal workers rotating through. The 9.2 rating makes total sense once you realize what you’re getting – it’s not trying to be the Martinez or the Carlton, but for what it is, they’ve really nailed it. Check-in was smooth (they held my bags for hours before my room was ready without any fuss), the WiFi actually worked throughout the building, and when I needed to print my boarding pass at 6 AM, someone was there to help. Small details, but they add up when you’re dealing with travel stress. The walk to the beach takes about 12 minutes if you’re not in a hurry, and you’ll pass some genuinely good cafés and that little market on Rue Meynadier where locals shop for produce. Sure, you’re not rolling out of bed onto the red carpet, but you’re also not paying €400 a night to essentially live in a tourist fishbowl either.

Travelers should reserve a hotel in Cannes at least two months ahead of their visit to ensure availability and secure better rates, especially during the peak May festival season when the city hosts its world-famous cinema celebrations.
