— The hotel
Studio Léa
You know what struck me first about Studio Léa? It’s tucked right on Rue Georges Clemenceau, which honestly is one of those streets where you feel like you’re actually in Cannes – not some tourist bubble. I mean, you’re literally a three-minute walk from the Palais des Festivals (yeah, where they do the film festival), but you’re also surrounded by those little French cafés where locals grab their morning coffee. The building itself has that classic Riviera charm – nothing flashy, but it’s got character. When I checked in, the staff actually remembered my name by day two, which is pretty rare these days.
The rooms are what you’d expect from a well-run 3-star – clean, functional, with that European efficiency thing going on. What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night, even though you’re right in the city center. The windows are actually decent quality, so you don’t get the usual street noise that plagues most downtown hotels. And honestly, the AC works properly, which… well, if you’ve stayed in older French hotels in summer, you know that’s not always a given. The bathrooms are compact but smartly designed – everything you need without feeling cramped. One thing though – if you’re the type who needs tons of closet space, pack light. It’s definitely more studio-style living than a sprawling hotel room.
Here’s what really sold me on the place: the location is just ridiculously good for exploring Cannes properly. You can walk to La Croisette in about five minutes, but you’re also perfectly positioned to wander up into Le Suquet (the old town) without dealing with the coastal crowds. There’s this little bakery called Boulangerie Julien literally around the corner – grab a pain au chocolat there in the morning, trust me. And if you need groceries or forgot something, there’s a Monoprix nearby that stays open later than you’d expect. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle if you’re driving, but there’s a public garage about two blocks away that’s not too brutal on the wallet. The 8.6 rating makes total sense to me – it’s not trying to be the Carlton or the Martinez, but for the price point and location, it delivers exactly what it promises. Perfect if you want to actually experience Cannes rather than just stay in a hotel that happens to be in Cannes, if that makes sense.
