The Beach Cocoon – Sea View & Calm
Honestly, when I first walked up to The Beach Cocoon, I wasn’t expecting much from the name – it sounds a bit like a wellness retreat gone wrong, doesn’t it? But you know what, this little 3-star spot on Boulevard Eugène Gazagnaire actually surprised me. The location is pretty solid if you know Cannes at all; you’re right there in Pointe Croisette, which means you can walk to the famous Croisette promenade without dealing with the absolute chaos of staying right in the thick of it. I mean, you’re still close enough to stumble back from a late dinner at one of those overpriced beachfront places, but far enough that you won’t have drunk tourists singing outside your window at 3 AM.
The rooms really do live up to that “sea view” promise – well, most of them anyway. I’d definitely ask specifically when booking because some rooms have what I’d generously call a “peek” of water between buildings. But when you get a proper sea-facing room, especially on the higher floors, it’s actually lovely. The whole vibe inside is pretty calm, like they were going for that cocoon feeling without making it feel claustrophobic. The décor is nothing groundbreaking – think modern beach hotel meets IKEA catalog – but it’s clean and comfortable enough. Air conditioning works well too, which you’ll definitely appreciate if you’re visiting during the summer madness when Cannes turns into a sweaty, glamorous oven.
What I really appreciated was how the staff seemed to know their stuff about the area. The guy at reception gave me proper directions to this tiny local market on Rue Meynadier where the prices aren’t completely insane, and he was right about which beach clubs actually let you just buy a drink without pressuring you into renting a €40 lounger. Parking can be a bit of a nightmare around here – I mean, it’s Cannes, so that’s not exactly shocking – but they do have some sort of arrangement with a nearby garage that makes it slightly less painful than circling the blocks like a vulture. The 7.3 rating feels about right, honestly. It’s not going to blow your mind, but it won’t disappoint either. You’re paying for the location and the sea views, and you’re getting exactly that without any nasty surprises. Perfect if you want to experience Cannes without completely destroying your budget on accommodation, leaving more cash for those ridiculously expensive but admittedly delicious cocktails down on the beach.
