— The hotel
Le Panorama – Cannes Beach
Look, I’ve stayed at plenty of places in Cannes over the years, and honestly, Le Panorama surprised me in the best way possible. It’s tucked away on Avenue Pierre Semard – you know, that quieter street that runs parallel to the Croisette but without all the tourist chaos. When I first walked up, I thought “okay, this is nice but not flashy,” which actually turned out to be exactly what I needed after dealing with the pretentious vibes at some of the bigger hotels.
The thing about this place is that it gets the balance right. You’re literally a three-minute walk from the beach (I timed it because I’m weird like that), but you don’t have to deal with the noise and crowds right outside your window. The staff – and I mean this – actually seem to care about what they’re doing. The guy at reception remembered my name after one night and gave me solid recommendations for restaurants away from the tourist traps. He steered me toward this little bistro on Rue Meynadier that I never would have found otherwise. The rooms aren’t huge, but they’re thoughtfully laid out with decent storage space, which matters when you’re staying more than a couple nights. My room faced the street, and sure, you hear some traffic in the morning, but it’s nothing compared to the party noise you’d get closer to the port.
What really won me over was the attention to small details that most places skip. The shower actually has good water pressure (you’d be amazed how rare this is in older French buildings), and they stock the bathroom with decent toiletries – not luxury stuff, but better than the usual generic bottles. The breakfast setup is simple but done right, with proper coffee and fresh pastries from a local bakery. I mean, it’s not a massive buffet, but the croissants were still warm most mornings. During the film festival madness in May, this place stays surprisingly calm while everywhere else turns into a circus. The location helps – you can walk to all the festival venues, but you’re not trapped in the middle of the red carpet insanity. Parking can be tricky (welcome to Cannes), but there’s a public garage about two blocks away, and the hotel staff will point you in the right direction without making you feel stupid for asking. Honestly, for a 3-star place, Le Panorama punches above its weight. It’s the kind of spot where you feel like you’re staying somewhere locals might actually recommend rather than just another tourist processing center.
