Superb villa with swimming pool & sauna
Look, I’ve stayed at plenty of places in Cannes, and this villa on chemin Daumas is honestly one of those hidden gems that makes you feel like you’ve cracked some sort of local code. It’s tucked away in La Californie – which, despite the fancy name, is actually this quiet residential area that most tourists completely miss because they’re all fighting for overpriced rooms near the Croisette. You know what though? That’s exactly why this place works so well.
The villa itself has this laid-back elegance that I wasn’t expecting from the photos. Sure, it’s got four stars and all that, but what really got me was walking into this space that felt more like staying at a well-traveled friend’s place than some sterile hotel room. The swimming pool is genuinely great – not one of those tiny dip pools you sometimes get – and the sauna was perfect after spending the day walking around Cannes (which is more hilly than people realize, especially if you’re exploring beyond the main tourist strip). The whole setup just feels… I mean, it feels like someone actually designed it for people who want to relax, not just take Instagram photos. Though honestly, the photos turn out pretty well too.
What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets in the evenings. You’re maybe a fifteen-minute drive from all the Cannes chaos – the film festival crowds, the yacht parties, the general madness of the port area – but up here in La Californie, you actually get to sleep. The owner clearly knows what they’re doing with the details too. Good water pressure (you’d be surprised how often that’s an issue in older French properties), decent Wi-Fi, and parking that doesn’t involve some nightmare parallel parking situation on a narrow street. The 8.5 rating makes total sense to me – it’s not trying to be the most luxurious place on the Côte d’Azur, but everything just works the way it should. Actually, that might be the best compliment I can give it. Sometimes you want a place where you don’t have to think about anything except whether you want to hit the pool or the sauna first.
